In its first report released on 7 June, 2022, the United Nations (UN) Independent International Commission of Inquiry*on the Occupied Palestinian Territory found that the Israeli occupation is the reason behind the suffering of Palestinians and the perpetuation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "The continued occupation by Israel of Palestinian territory and discrimination against Palestinians are the key root causes of the recurrent tensions, instability and protraction of conflict in the region," the report stated.
